October is quickly approaching and the weather is finally feeling like fall. For our Selah students, that means Fall Into Music Bingo, spooky scales, and a Rhythm Group Theory Lesson October 14-19. Please make sure you have Registered for the group time you plan to attend. Remember, one hour Group Lessons REPLACE your private lesson for the week. Please be careful at drop off and pick up and do not bring anything inside (this helps us to not get our books mixed up).
Fall Into Music Bingo is a fun way to get students motivated and mix things up a bit. Everyone will get a bingo card during lesson time next week. Students have all month to work on their card. Each bingo receives a prize. Encourage your students to aim for one bingo a week and blackout by the end of the month.
A few ideas for your bingo card:
♭Have your child watch and listen to a professional musician on youtube OR you could take them to a live performance.
♮For a rhythm game, clap a rhythm and have them clap it back to you or have them clap along to Corn Rhythm Song
♯ For drawing the Grand Staff or two measures of Rhythm, take a look in the book for helps or have them ask their teacher at their next private lesson for help.
Our very first POP UP is on the calendar now for October 17th from 6:30-7:30 at Cornerstone Church on 1st Street in Ankeny. Students will learn to create a story and add emotion using articulation, dynamics, tempo, majors and minors, and chord progressions. This is for Intermediate and Advanced Piano Students and is limited to 8 participants. Pop-ups are free for Selah students. Registration is required and we ask that you only register if you KNOW you will be there simply so we can provide this experience to as many students as possible. Register now and mark your calendar.
If your Selah student attends lessons at ⛪Cornerstone Baptist Church, a parent or guardian is required to stay in the building near the lesson room in case of an emergency. Often there are no other adults in the building and we want to maintain a safe environment. Thank you for your cooperation. Please reachout to the Director if you have questions or concerns.
If your Selah student is a 🚗mobile lesson student and the teacher comes into your home, the parent or guardian is required to stay in the home near the lesson room in case of an emergency.
It is our desire to provide excellent music education. We want our teachers to be free from liability that may come with emergency situations. We are not equipped to provide childcare, help with bathroom needs, or clean up accidents. Thank you for understanding and helping us to do our best to maintain a safe, stress free learning environment for our students and families.
As sickness abounds please help our teachers stay healthy by limiting exposure. If your student is exhibiting symptoms, consider a virtual lesson! Simply let your teacher know you would like to do a virtual lesson. We will happily accommodate.
Also, please have your child use the bathroom before or after our short lesson time and only use our private resident bathrooms if there is an emergency.
As we move into the Holiday season we want to encourage you to purchase a Christmas book for your student! You can check out some we like to use on our SHOP page. Order the level and publisher that your lesson books are in. If you already have a Christmas book, please begin sending it with your student in the next few weeks. We will be planning an outing for select students for December to perform at a nursing home.
Fall term begins Monday, August 26th. The Portal has been updated and all students are added at the time agreed upon. Group Theory Lessons, Recitals, and Holidays have all been updated. Here is our Calendar at a Glance. But, please be sure to log in to the portal to see specifics for each teacher. The portal is a very important tool for our studio. Please use the portal to cancel lessons and to send emails to your teacher. Your teacher may use the portal to communicate with you, and to post links for games, music, and more. You can always access your invoice and pay tuition through the portal as well.
A few things to note🎵 Our annual student fee of $25 will be added to your September invoice. Please see our policies if you need clarification. You can always access our FAQs and Policies on our website. Only a couple of things have been updated in our policies including a tuition increase of $5 per month for piano students in January 2025. We have not raised tuition in several years, so I look forward to giving our teachers a small raise in 2025. The beginning of the semester is a great time to read over the policies. If you have questions or concerns about anything, please reach out to our Studio Director – Shelia.
