Private Lessons

Piano or Drum

Once a student has learned to read and shows an interest in music, piano or drum lessons are a great option. (Typically age 6-8)

Preparation at this level takes commitment and dedication that is intrinsically motivated by the joy and beauty of listening to themselves, working hard and sharing.

Five days a week of practice signed off and tracked by a parent is required.
Tuition for private instruction is based on the time and teacher's experience.

Violin

Beginning violin lessons (typically age 7 and older) will cover the fundamental techniques needed to become a violinist. We will develop the proper method of left hand position and bow technique (right hand).

Note reading and music theory will be addressed at each lesson. For more advanced students, we will focus more on playing musically and working on more difficult pieces of music.
Lessons will generally be once a week for 30 minutes. Daily practice will be imperative to ensure that progress is made at every lesson.

VOICE LESSONS

Beginner Voice will cover basic vocal technique including breathing, phrasing, diction, pitch, intonation, ear training, sight reading, and more.

Audition Preparation packages are designed for vocalist who have an intermediate to advanced skill set, but would like coaching for a specific audition (scholarship opportunities, musical theater, etc.) Audition material can be chosen together or you can bring in required pieces.

Packages are for 4-6 lessons to be scheduled for one hour based on the teacher and students availability.

Guitar

Beginner guitar lessons (ages 7+) will include learning the names and order of strings, how to play notes on the fretboard while learning to read notes on the staff, finger coordination, rhythms, theory, chords, how to tune and care for their instrument, and how to strum.

Guitar students should practice regularly and consistently to improve their skills (five days a week). Guitar students need a positive mindset in order to stay motivated and believe in their potential.

Hard work and intrinsic motivation is essential! Together we will set long-term goals and work towards them.

"We are so grateful to have discovered Mrs Shelia and Selah Music Studio!!
We appreciate how she encourages her students to use their talents to glorify the Lord. She clearly loves her students, and loves teaching! She makes learning fun, and my 6 year old looks forward to her weekly lesson! What a blessing Shelia has been in our lives!"

So Grateful

- Jennifer

"We started at Selah when Ingrid was 5 and have loved seeing her grow in her skills. Mrs. Shelia has made the lesson pace personal to her needs and has made the atmosphere so welcoming for her. We really love piano lesson days, and have been thankful for how learning piano has become a joy for our daughter."

Growing in her skills

"As a mom of three girls who have taken private and group lessons with Selah Music Ankeny, I've been able to see how each of them has blossomed into musicians in their own right over the years. My girls still sing fun warm up songs that they learned from Mrs. Shelia over 10 years ago.  Shelia has invested into the heart of our children both spiritually and musically.  We can't imagine what it would have been like to have music in our lives without her."
